Win an Entry to the Inaugural Utah Marathon on Oct. 13!

End marathon season at this new race, the Utah Marathon, in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Oct. 13, which offers events for runners and cyclists along with a huge pre-race event dubbed the Fittest State Festival.

Participants can take part in one of five events: the full 26.2-mile marathon, which winds from Library Square to Olympus Hills Park and back, a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 5k run/walk, or a 25-mile bike tour along the marathon route. There’s also a one-kilometer “Kids K” for children, and live entertainment and festivities will take place at the “Fit Stock” Finish Line Festival in Library Square throughout the day.

“Utah is the fourth-fittest state in the nation, in terms of obesity rates, but we want to be number-one,” said Scott Kerr, CEO of The Utah Marathon and Fittest State Festival. “The Utah Marathon and Fittest State Festival is a great way for Utahns to get in shape, learn about athletic training, and meet other runners, cyclists and training groups to help stay motivated after Race Day.”

The festival kicks off Thursday afternoon with the Fittest State Festival Expo, taking place at the Utah Marathon Race Headquarters at the Sheraton Hotel in Downtown Salt Lake City. Participants can pick up their race packets —which include bib numbers, T-shirts, and samples— then everyone can browse booths offering the latest in sports nutrition, equipment, apparel, medicine and massage, and much more.

The expo runs from 4 to 8 p.m., then continues Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registration and packet pick-up will be open until 7:59 p.m. Friday. Friday night also features a pasta party at the Sheraton (time to-be-determined). Carbo-load and rub elbows with fellow races, then hit the hay early for an early start Saturday:

·      The bike tour begins at 6:30 a.m.
·      Wheelchair and handcycle (half-marathon only) cross the starting line at 6:40 a.m.
·      The marathon and half-marathon start at 7 a.m.
·      FitStock opens at 7:30 a.m.
·      The 5K kicks off at 8:30 a.m.
·      Kids K starts at 10 a.m.

Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the race route through the marathon’s “Adopt a Mile” program, which is calling on Utah families, neighborhoods and community groups to make the entire 26.2-mile marathon route an enormous celebration.
