10 Winter Running Faves for Women

I used to shy away from winter running, worrying about the cold or wet feet, but my distaste for treadmill running made me opt to venture outside this winter with some new cold weather apparel. Here are a few of my favorite finds for your snowiest, coldest runs:

Asics Thermopolis Tights
Buttery soft and blissfully warm, Asics Thermopolis Full-length Tights are my go-to bottoms when the temperatures drop. They're lined with fleecy fabric that's as cozy as your PJs, but looks much sexier on. Reflective hits keep you safer in low-light conditions. $60 asicsamerica.com

Asics Thermopolis LT Half Zip

I'm a sucker for the kangaroo pocket on front, and I love the loose-fitting neck that zips up to cover fully. Bright colors make it fun to wear, and the soft fabric insulates for cozy comfort. Pairs beautifully with the Lucy Winter Hideaway Vest when you need extra coverage. $75 asicsamerica.com

Lucy Winter Hideaway Vest
It's tough to find a down vest that keeps my core warm without feeling bulky. The side stretch panels promote easy movement and give the vest a flattering fit. Admittedly, I wear this quilted number day to day too. Love it paired with a bright top and patterned tights. Currently 30% off online, making this vest just $90. lucy.com

Brooks Adapt Vest
Another vest? Yes! I LOVED this vest on cold mornings! I felt warm but not overheated wearing it, and despite the soft feel of the fabric, it kept water and wind out. A mix of snowy and rain fell, but I stayed dry! The Thermacool fill has a higher warmth to weight ratio so it's lighter than a comparable down vest, and the kangaroo pocket in front was handy for stowing gloves when my hands heated up. $110

Brooks Heater Hog Long Sleeve
Basic in design, but innovative in function, this top is made from fibers that pull moisture away from your skin while generating heat back into your body. Looks great with a vest, and the technology can't wash out. $60, $75 for half-zip version brooksrunning.com

Lole Love Earflap
Keep your head warm while avoiding hat hair with this reversible fleece earwarmer. Reverses from solid to printed fabric and made of wicking antimicrobial fabric. $20 lole.com

Wrightsock CoolMesh II

I love low-cut socks in the summer, but wearing them this winter with full tights made for cold ankles! So I stopped in at REI and picked up a pair of Wrightsocks that were a bit longer for extra coverage. Marketed as a doublelayer sock that feels like a single layer, this sock is designed to keep keep cool, supported, and blister free...guaranteed. I struggle with blisters so I was excited to test drive this sock, and my feet were cool and blister free after 3 miles. $12 wrightsock.myshopify.com

Brooks Adrenaline ASR 10 GTX Trail Shoes
Though a bit stiff on my first run in them (due to the GoreTex liner), I loved these shoes for snowy trails and roads! My neighborhood was six inches deep in fluffy white powder, but my feet stayed totally dry as I ran on unshoveled sidewalks and slushy streets. I am normally miserable on wet runs, and these made a huge difference! Plus, the GoreTex liner is breathable so your feet don't feel clammy or sweaty at all. $140 brooksrunning.com
