SECOND ANNUAL SKIING & TREES SYMPOSIUM

Learn About Utah’s New State Tree, Current Issues and What it Means for Utah

PC: Jay Dash

Quaking Aspen trees have become iconic subjects in photographs and artwork depicting the American west. So it comes as no surprise that on March 26, 2014 it was designated as the new state tree of Utah, where riding the Greatest Snow on Earth® through a beautiful aspen grove can make the trip of a lifetime.

TreeUtah is partnering with Alta Ski Area to present the second annual Skiing & Trees symposium. This year’s topic will be Aspen — their current state throughout Utah and the potential effects on recreation and the health of Utah forests. We invite businesses and community members alike to join us for an early morning of pre-public skiing, breakfast, and a lively discussion with leading experts. Speakers include Director of the Western Aspen Alliance (WAA) Paul Rogers and USDA Forest Service Forest Pathologist John Guyon. “This is an exciting event that brings the skiing community and local experts together to discuss the future of trees, how it will impact our businesses and the places we all love” says Amy Collins, TreeUtah Executive Director.
TreeUtah is excited to have the support of Maverik as a ‘Black Diamond’ sponsor, and Visit Salt Lake as a ‘Blue Square’ sponsor for this year’s symposium.
"Maverik’s brand revolves around exciting outdoor adventure so it only makes sense for Maverik to support Skiing and Trees. We at Maverik feel a strong connection to our environment and urge all outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy our natural resources responsibly and do what their part to ensure an amazing outdoor adventure-land for future generations.”- Ernie Harker, Executive Director of Marketing, Maverik- Adventure’s First Stop

"TreeUtah's 'Skiing & Trees' program complements our sustainability efforts perfectly," said Eric Thompson, vice president of marketing for Visit Salt Lake. "Being 'green' is much more than simply marketing our organization and Salt Lake as such; supporting like-minded programs, particularly those that benefit our community like TreeUtah's efforts, is critical to our effort in being good stewards of what we promote to a worldwide audience.” – Eric Thompson, Visit Salt Lake Vice President of Marketing
