Born Scott Ramon Seguro
Mescudi in Cleveland, Ohio, this rapper is better known by his stage
name, Kid Cudi. He moved to Brooklyn to be part of the hip hop scene and lived
with his uncle while working at BAPE (a clothing store) to make ends meet,
often wearing the same uniform for weeks because he couldn't afford any
clothing. Kid Cudi first met his future mentor, Kanye West, at BAPE when he
failed to remove an antitheft device from a jacket West had purchased. Cudi became affiliated with Fool's Gold,
the label of DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. The label released the Day 'n' Nite
EP in February 2008 and circulated a Crookers
remix around the blogosphere, drumming up a good deal of buzz in the process.
It didn't hurt that Kid Cudi began to receive increasing press attention,
including a nod from Rolling Stone (which touted him among the
magazine's Top Five best indie hip-hop artists of 2008).
He quickly rose to fame in 2009 after releasing the Grammy-nominated single, "Day 'n' Nite,” which reached the top five on the Billboard Charts. The album containing the song, "Man on the Moon: The End of Day" peaked at #2 on the Billboard’s Top 200.
Popular artists took notice of Kid Cudi's unique style too affording him opportunities to work with notable names like Jay-Z, Common, Shakira, MGMT, and Snoop Dogg.
In late 2010, Cudi announced he'd be forming a rock band called Wizard, later renaming it WZRD, and their self-titled album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 Chart in February 2012. He teamed with "Day 'n' Nite" producer Dot Da Genius and introduced their rock-rap band, WZRD. A year later Indicud arrived and included contributions from soft-rock sisters Haim and former Fleet Foxes' drummer Father John Misty, alongside rappers A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar.Since then, Kid Cudi has focused on returning to his roots, even releasing a new hip hop song for the first time since 2010.
In April Cudi left Kayne West's GOOD Music label
to focus on his own label, Wicked Awesome Records and and is now touring with
his new album, Indicud.
